Product Review: Mentholatum Acnes White

Mentholatum Acnes White: Medicated Clear & Whitening Wash

I'm back with another product review on a brand and product that I've only found in Asia.  Being so, I should warn you that I cannot read Chinese or Japanese, so I'm a little out of luck in telling you what the product claims are.  The only thing I can tell you is that this tube of face cleanser deals with acne and whitening.

I discovered Mentholatum's Acnes product line a couple years ago (2009 or 2010) and have been hooked since!  Their acne washes are really gentle yet thorough.  So, let me get on with my thoughts on this.

For the record, my skin does react to a lot of different products in ways that it never reacted when I was younger.  I battle with adult acne on a seasonal basis.  I do want to keep my skin lighter so those pesky age spots won't show up so badly!  Okay, and now, the review!

Texture
Thick like toothpaste.  Smells a little lemony.  Goes on like paste, but foams up with water and the longer you massage it into your skin.

Immediate Aftereffects
Skin is squeeeeeaaaaky clean but does not feel overly dry.  Skin looks a tad brighter and a smidgen whiter, but comes back to normal after a few minutes.

Long-term Aftereffects
Less new acne.  Shrinking and calming of current acne.  Some hyperpigmentation spots seem to be less noticeable.

Okay, I think this is it for my product review.  I've been using it since the beginning of January when I was in Taiwan.  I have 2 more tubes as backup.  Considering that I did not want to spend any more money on skincare, and given how much I love Johnson's Head-to-Toe Baby Wash, you can tell that I really really like this cleanser.  LOL.

Would I recommend it?  HECK, YEAH!!!!

When I go back to Taiwan, I will make it a point of restocking enough of these to last me a year or more!

Product Review: Mentholatum Acnes Medicated Sealing Jell

I would like to do a product review on the Mentholatum Acnes Medicated Sealing Jell; however there isn't much information in English about this product.  What I can glean from some reviews is that you're supposed to apply this over problem areas.  I don't know what it's supposed to do, so this product review will be based on my experiences with this product.

*Please keep in mind that I'm reviewing this product based on my experiences and with little information to work from.*

How I use this product
I use this product in the evenings as an all over treatment/moisturizer for my face.  This is the last step of my skincare routine for now.

Scent
The scent reminds me of herbs and lemons, though it's not a strong scent at all.  I can guarantee that the scent is not floral, fruity, or sweet.  The scent goes away after the product gets absorbed.

Consistency
The gel is thick and doesn't smoothe on very well.  It feels thick and sticky on my skin, but it absorbs very well after a few minutes.  Maybe because of its consistency that I find the product to act as a good moisturizer for the evening.

Does it work?
I don't know what it's supposed to do to acne.  I wish I had more information on this product!  However, I will say that I don't notice any new breakouts so whatever is in this product must be good for my skin (I assume).  It seems to suspend my cystic acne and calm them down over the course of a few nights.  I think it may be contributing to lightening up some hyperpigmentation from acne scars.  However, my lack of fresh breakouts may be from diet (I've given up one of my favorite foods: nuts!).

Would I purchase this again?
Given that I don't actually know what it's supposed to do, I think I may be crazy in saying that I would repurchase this again.  It hasn't done any harm to my skin so far and its in a hygenic squeeze tube.  However, I can't get it.  It's only sold in Asia.  Boo!  :'(

Product Review: Mentholatum Acnes Cleanser

Here in the United States Mentholatum is a brand that is highly associated with ointments that unblock nasal passages and medicine.  When I was in Taiwan last year, I bought Mentholatum Acnes facial cleanser, which is written in Chinese and only available to the Pacific Asian Region and Japan (no fair, Asia gets the best of everything!).  I tried to find more of it online and such, because I really LOVE the cleanser and have tried hard to make my 2 tubes of it last...  but I won't be getting more of this unless I go back to Tawain/Asia and hit up the 7-11 stores.  ^_^

For brand information on Mentholatum Acnes and to see more brands under the Mentholatum, visit their official company site

What I really like about this cleanser is that it has a citrus smell to it, like lemons.  So, it psychologically makes me feel clean just be the scent.  I usually take a pea-sized amount on my fingertips, rub my fingers together for 2 seconds and start massaging in circular motions on my wet face.  At first it feels really creamy, but then after mixing with the moisture on your skin, it starts to lather up.  A pea-sized amount is enough to lather your entire face and throat and neck.  I like to spend extra time lathering and massaging my face, but once you rinse it off, it your skin feels so squeaky clean without feeling stripped of essential moisture!

The only downside to this product is that I can't buy it in America.  The good thing is that it is easily accessible in Asia (7-11 stores, Watson's, etc.).

The tube is a perfect size for traveling.  I am not very sure if it really helps with acne.  All the ingredients are listed in Chinese, which I can't read, but I have never had a problem with breaking out from using it.

I love this product a lot, but I'm probably not going to pay premium pricing for it when I know how much it costs in Taiwanese dollars and know that if I buy it from the internet, I'm only getting ripped off.  ^_^

But for those of you lucky enough to have this in your neighborhood stores, I do recommend this product.  I love it!  ^_^
